Innovation with impact: “jutin”, a sustainable construction material made from jute fiber

A new construction material developed from jute fiber grown in Bangladesh has been awarded the first prize of $50,000 at the international competition Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) .

The material, named jutin, was created by the team at Greenovation Technologies and represents an affordable, strong and eco-friendly solution for housing construction in low-resource countries and areas affected by natural disasters.

What is jutin?

Jutin is an innovative blend of jute fibers and special resins, resulting in a material that is:

  • Lightweight, ideal for transportable or modular structures.

  • Thermally insulating, perfect for warm climates.

  • Resistant to deterioration, rust and extreme environmental conditions.

  • Affordable, both in cost and availability.

Thanks to these properties, jutin can be used as building blocks, panels or modular structures for low-cost housing or emergency shelters.

A solution for millions of people

With more than one billion people worldwide living without adequate housing, this development could transform how housing crises are addressed in vulnerable regions.

Moreover, being based on jute, an abundant, renewable and biodegradable natural fiber, jutin is a clear example of innovation aligned with the principles of sustainable development.

International support and global outlook

The project has attracted the attention of investors and organizations from the technology and social sectors, securing funding and strategic partnerships to bring this solution to an industrial scale.

At Deyute, we celebrate initiatives like this that demonstrate the enormous potential of jute as a versatile, eco-friendly and transformative raw material.

The future is built with innovation… and also with natural fibers.
